Swachh Bharat Abhiyan observed at Lowland Agronomy Farm, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam

 

Division of Crop Production, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam observed the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme on 13th November 2018 at lowland agronomy farm of the Institute. The cleanliness drive was done in and around the lowland Agronomy Farm Building premises with active participation of Dr. Jayanta Layek, Scientist (Agronomy), all the Senior Research Fellows, Temporary Status Majdoors (TSMs), Casual laborers etc. The programme was organized just one day before the Field Day for farmers on ‘No-till organic pulse production in rice fallow for improving soil health and cropping intensity” to give the message of sanitation and cleanliness in farm field to the farmers. All the staffs working in the farm actively participated in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan irrespective of category, men and women and cleaned the lowland agronomy farm buildings, farm roads, boundary walls, rooms, cattle yard and other places in and around the farm. Dustbin with proper labelling were installed at several places in the farm to dispose the daily wastes. It has been instructed to limit the use of plastics in the farm and proper disposal of them. Burning of plastics, crop residues etc. were strictly prohibited. The vegetable wastes, crop residues and weed biomass etc. are encouraged to use in the vermicomposting unit of the farm for preparation of good quality of manure. The Animal houses and surrounding areas must be kept clean for minimizing risks of contamination and diseases.
